Softball Game Preview: Catalina Trojans vs. Empire Ravens

Catalina is 0-9 against Empire since April of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Trojans will welcome the Ravens at 6:00 p.m. Catalina has given up an average of 18.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Catalina is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 14th straight game dating back to last season two weeks ago. They lost 19-0 to Cholla. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Empire strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Bourgade Catholic an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Ravens have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Kapri Tiggas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Peace, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Empire was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .444 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Empire pushed their record up to 17-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Catalina, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
