Softball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is South Grand Prairie's 16th in Last 17 Outings

It's playoff time, and South Grand Prairie had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Richardson Eagles on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Eagles on Friday, they had to take a 5-4 defeat.

Jernie Nerio made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Alex Stone was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Gianna Orozco, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.

South Grand Prairie is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 20-9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Richardson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-16 record this season.

As of now, neither South Grand Prairie nor Richardson have any future games scheduled.
