Softball Game Preview: Mather Rangers vs. Chicago Academy Cougars

The Mather Rangers will venture away from home to take on the Chicago Academy Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chicago Academy took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mather, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Mather beat Rickover Naval 10-7.

Meanwhile, Chicago Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Lake View on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 10-9. The Cougars have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Bella Trejo put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over 7.1 innings while giving up six earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Yosselyn Figueroa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Destiny Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Mather now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Chicago Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Mather suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Chicago Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Rangers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
