Basketball Preview: Freeman Flyers vs. Centerville Tornadoes
The Freeman Flyers will head out to square off against the Centerville Tornadoes at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Freeman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Centerville likes a good challenge.
Freeman will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Bon Homme, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Freeman simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Bon Homme 60-30. Given the Flyers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 147th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Freeman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tate Sorensen, who went 6 for 9 en route to 15 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of David Walter, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points.
Freeman was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Centerville was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 56-55 to Irene/Wakonda.
Freeman's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Centerville, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-3.
Freeman might still be hurting after the 75-55 loss they got from Centerville in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Freeman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
