The Monticello Sages will challenge the Clinton Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Monticello is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.

Last Monday, Monticello came up short against Glenwood and fell 6-2. The match marked the Sages' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Monticello saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sadie Walsh, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Clinton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 13-5 to Warrensburg-Latham.

Riley Fentress made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Lainey Nichols was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Clinton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Monticello, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-3.

Clinton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monticello has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. It's a different story for Clinton, though, as they've only averaged .333. Will they be able to contain Monticello's hitters?

Monticello beat Clinton 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sages since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
