Softball Recap: Winnsboro Comes Up Short

After flying high against Prairiland last Tuesday, Winnsboro came back down to earth. Winnsboro came up short against the Mount Vernon Tigers on Tuesday, falling 9-1. If the Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Tigers when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Winnsboro's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Mount Vernon, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4-1 record this season.

Winnsboro will face off against Rains at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rains will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Winnsboro surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mount Vernon, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Mount Vernon Tigers take on Sulphur Springs Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. They are on a three-game streak of home wins, Sulphur Springs an eight-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
