Basketball Game Preview: Toppenish Wildcats vs. Selah Vikings

The Toppenish Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Selah Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Toppenish is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Toppenish was able to grind out a solid victory over East Valley, taking the game 49-40. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Red Devils are ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Toppenish found their leader in sophomore Audrey Herrera, who posted ten points. That's the most points Herrera has posted since back in January of 2024. Tatiana Camacho was another key player, putting up ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Selah waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 75-21 win over the Tigers. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 23 points or more this season.

Toppenish is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Selah, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.

Toppenish came up short against Selah in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 53-48. Can Toppenish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
