Softball Recap: Calallen Beats Needville for Their 15th Straight Victory

Calallen had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They beat the Needville Bluejays on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won 15 matches in a row.

Bianca Gonzales tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Calallen let Brookelynn Meador and Braelyn Bailey run wild. Meador went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Bailey went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Meador has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kiana Vargas, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Calallen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.

Calallen's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Needville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 24-7.

Looking ahead, Calallen will take on Davenport on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 1.5, the Wolves 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Needville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
