Baseball Game Preview: Morton Potters vs. Dunlap Eagles

The Morton Potters will challenge the Dunlap Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Morton 2.4, Dunlap 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Morton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Eureka on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 3-2.

Meanwhile, Dunlap got the win against Forreston on Saturday by a conclusive 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Newton was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Christian Ferrari, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

Dunlap has been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Morton, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-8.

Morton couldn't quite finish off Dunlap in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Potters avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
