Baseball Game Preview: Emery Spartans vs. Spanish Fork Dons

The Emery Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Spanish Fork Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Richfield hit Emery with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 10-5 to the Wildcats.

Beau Stilson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Emery: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise.

Spanish Fork not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 9-1). They blew past Cedar Valley 9-2. The victory continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Aviators: they've now won three in a row.

Matai Johnson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nixon Warren was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March. Trigg Cloward also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Emery has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Spanish Fork, their win bumped their record up to 4-12.
