Basketball Recap: Timpview Thunderbirds vs. Cedar Valley Aviators

The Timpview Thunderbirds waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They secured a 78-73 W over Cedar Valley. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Timpview found their leader in underclassman Mason Ford, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Dean Rueckert, who scored 17 points along with two steals.

Cedar Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Owen Bawden, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Bawden is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last nine games he's played. Hunter Larson was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists and two blocks.

Timpview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Cedar Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timpview's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wasps at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Wasatch has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 263 points over their last four matchups. As for Cedar Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Springville is ranked 37th, while the Aviators are ranked 46th).
