Baseball Game Preview: Grafton Clippers vs. New Kent Trojans

The Grafton Clippers will take on the New Kent Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

While Grafton's victory against Tabb wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Clippers never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Clippers have won by just one run.

New Kent came out on top against Bruton on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. The Trojans blew past the Panthers 11-0. Considering the Trojans have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brody Cash made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Hetzel, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Warren, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

New Kent was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Grafton pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Kent, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
