Baseball Recap: Elgin Victorious

The Elgin Maroons beat the Round Lake Panthers 14-11 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Maroons.

Elgin got a massive performance out of Hugo Gasca, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave Gasca a new career-high. Another player making a difference was John Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Elgin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Elgin's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Round Lake, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-22.

Looking ahead, Elgin will square off against West Aurora at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Maroons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blackhawks have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for Round Lake, they will challenge Belvidere at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
