Football Recap: Servite Friars vs. Centennial Huskies

Servite and Centennial squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Servite had to settle for second. They were dealt a 41-6 loss at the hands of the Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Friars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' national football rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Huskies are ranked fifth).

Seth Tetzlaff threw for 116 yards on only ten passes. Luke Sorensen was his top target, picking up 88 receiving yards. On the ground, Gavin Gutierrez rushed for 59 yards and one score.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centennial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malaki Davis, who rushed for 160 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Davis has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dominick Catalano, who rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.

Servite's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Centennial, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Servite does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Centennial, they will square off against Mater Dei at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies' defense better be ready for this one: the Monarchs have averaged an impressive 27.3 points per game this season.
