Softball Game Preview: Southwest Christian School Eagles vs. John Paul II Cardinals

The Southwest Christian School Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the John Paul II Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

John Paul II will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Southwest Christian School extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Eagles blew past Grapevine Faith Christian 15-6. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Lions on their field since April 5, 2016.

Evan Smith made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addison Davidson and Emma Russo did most of the damage at the plate: Davidson got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Russo got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Karis Jones, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when John Paul II duked it out with Prestonwood Christian on Monday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-2 victory. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

John Paul II's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Southwest Christian School, their record is now 18-5-1.

Southwest Christian School couldn't quite finish off John Paul II in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
