Baseball Game Preview: Westlake Demons vs. Rocky River Pirates

The Westlake Demons will head out on the road to square off against the Rocky River Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

While Westlake's victory against Avon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Demons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Eagles on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Demons considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Ethan Thompson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Sean Brouillard was a standout: he went 1-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Westlake: the team is 10-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cole Artman, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Rocky River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 10-5 to Firelands.

Westlake has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Rocky River, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Westlake came up short against Rocky River in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, falling 5-1. Can the Demons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
