Softball Recap: Rice Memorial Continues Road Dominance on Tuesday

Rice Memorial won the last time they faced Vergennes and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Green Knights were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Commodores. The result was nothing new for the Green Knights, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Alayna Havreluk made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Finley Strong was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Bella Messineo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Rice Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .511 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Rice Memorial's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Vergennes, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
