Recap: Kalama Chinooks vs. Rainier Mountaineers
The Kalama Chinooks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Rainier by a score of 40-37. While losing is never fun, Kalama can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Rainier is ranked 98th).
Kalama lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Drew Schlangen, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Abel Koski, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
Kalama's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Rainier, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Kalama will face off against Adna at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rainier, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Morton/White Pass at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Morton/White Pass has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 202 points over their last three games.
