Soccer Game Preview: Cardinal Newman vs. Windsor

Cardinal Newman and Windsor are an even 4-4-2 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Cardinal Newman face off against the Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Newman's last three games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Cardinal Newman's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over Maria Carrillo. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Pumas are ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Windsor was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They beat Ukiah by a goal, winning 3-2.

Windsor hit Ukiah with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Marco Soto, Adrian Angel, and Yahir Trejo.

Cardinal Newman has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2-2 record this season. As for Windsor, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-1-1 and their overall record up to 9-3-2.

Cardinal Newman came out on top in a nail-biter against Windsor in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cardinal Newman since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
