Baseball Recap: Spring Mills Snags Seventh Win in Last Nine Games

Spring Mills won the last time they faced Pendleton County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Wildcat with a sharp 17-7 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Brayden Clark looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Landon Stanley and Rylan Swartz did most of the damage at the plate: Stanley got on base in all five of his plate appearances with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Swartz went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Swartz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Anders, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

Spring Mills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pendleton County only posted an OBP of .310.

Spring Mills is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Pendleton County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Coming up, Spring Mills will head out on the road to take on Fort Hill at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Pendleton County, they will square off against Elkins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Wildcat will no doubt try to take advantage of.
