Baseball Recap: Pinole Valley Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pinole Valley walked away with it. They walked away with a 5-1 win over The Bay School Breakers on Friday.

Max Castro was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charles Vargas, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has become a key player for Pinole Valley: the team is 3-1-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 9-10 otherwise. Ivan Rojo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pinole Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Pinole Valley pushed their record up to 12-11-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for The Bay School, they moved to 17-6 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Pinole Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-4 defeat against Kennedy on the 27th. The Bay School does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
