Baseball Game Preview: Drury Blue Devils vs. Monument Mountain Spartans

The Drury Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Monument Mountain Spartans at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Drury is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Thursday, Drury beat Mount Everett Regional 7-4.

Lucas Rylander made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Rylander was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

Rylander wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Canales, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Monument Mountain won against Frontier Regional on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Spartans put the hurt on Wahconah Regional with a sharp 11-5 win. Considering the Spartans have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory made it two in a row for Monument Mountain and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Drury, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Everything went Drury's way against Monument Mountain in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Drury made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
