Basketball Recap: Camp Verde Comes Up Short

Camp Verde extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They were outmatched by the St. Johns Redskins and fell 65-20. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Redskins are ranked 39th).

Despite the loss, Camp Verde still got an impressive performance from Areli Ortiz, who posted six points.

As for St. Johns, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 27 points or more this season.

St. Johns' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Tsinajinnie, who earned nine points along with five boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Wagoner, who went 5-for-11 en route to 10 points and six steals.

Camp Verde wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-24 loss against Fort Thomas on the 11th. As for St. Johns, they have also already played their next game, a 58-24 win against St. Michael on the 12th.
