Soccer Game Preview: Mater Academy Charter vs. Varela

Mater Academy Charter took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Somerset Academy - Canyons by a score of 3-1. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Lions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Cougars are ranked 133rd).

Meanwhile, Varela kept a clean sheet against Sunset on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 6-0 win. The Vipers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by four goals or more this season.

Mater Academy Charter pushed their record up to 4-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those three contests. As for Varela, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
