Baseball Recap: Celina Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Celina proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ansonia Tigers a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since April 3rd.

Not much got past Brady Steinbrunner, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Ansonia off the board. Celina is undefeated when Steinbrunner posts eight or more strikeouts, but 8-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Celina saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brodee Schulte-Arnold, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Celina hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory (which was Celina's fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Ansonia, they dropped their record down to 5-14 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Celina will head out to square off against Spencerville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ansonia, they will square off against New Bremen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
