Basketball Recap: Laguna Creek Comes Up Short

Laguna Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Oak Ridge Trojans 85-53. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while the Trojans are ranked 102nd).

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Boyce, who went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Koa Jones, who posted seven points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Leading Oak Ridge to victory were Kaleb Edwards and Lucas Cutler. Edwards almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Cutler dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. The contest was Edwards' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Sullivan, who scored 11 points.

Laguna Creek's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Oak Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Laguna Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-63 victory against Elk Grove on the 8th. As for Oak Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-60 defeat against Granite Bay on the 6th.
