The Wendell Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Firth Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Wendell has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wendell is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Gooding just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 15-8 to the Senators. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Sophie Mattix was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Jace Olmos was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Firth duked it out with Soda Springs on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 17-9 victory.
Mckenna Erickson and Meg Leslie did most of the damage at the plate: Erickson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Leslie went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Erickson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrea Fielding, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Firth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Firth's record now sits at 2-5. As for Wendell, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wendell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Firth struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wendell's way against Firth in their previous matchup back in March, as Wendell made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
