Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Superior). Everything went their way against the Marshall Hilltoppers on Thursday as they made off with a 29-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won eight in a row.
Emma Lampton made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Superior got a massive performance out of Matteline Schilling, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Schilling has launched this season. Halle Visger was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and four RBI.
Superior always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Superior's record is now 6-4. As for Marshall, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Superior will host Menomonie at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Marshall, they will square off against Denfeld at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
