Basketball Recap: Izaiah Bacchus' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Island Coast over South Fort Myers

Island Coast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Fort Myers Wolfpack. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-55 back in December of 2024.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Izaiah Bacchus, who posted 15 points. Jose Bido was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Fort Myers to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ja?Mahdi Ward, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Ward has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 22 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles JaCkson, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Island Coast's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for South Fort Myers, they moved to 10-10 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Island Coast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-58 win against Mariner on the 21st. As for South Fort Myers, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-48 defeat against Aubrey Rogers on the 21st.
