Baseball Game Preview: Wilmington Wildcats vs. Lisle Lions

Wilmington is 9-1 against Lisle since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Wilmington's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Lisle's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Wilmington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Sandwich on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Declan Moran, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Dierks Geiss was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Wilmington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sandwich struck out ten times.

Meanwhile, Lisle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They lost 10-4 to Yorkville Christian.

Wilmington is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Lisle, their loss dropped their record down to 1-15-1.

Wilmington beat Lisle 6-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
