Softball Preview: Waltrip Rams vs. Sterling Raiders
Waltrip has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Sterling Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Waltrip's favor is that they have posted big run totals in their last three matchups.
Waltrip can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. Everything went their way against Madison as Waltrip made off with a 16-0 victory. While fans of Waltrip might be used to big wins, the 16-run margin marked the team's biggest win yet this season.
Eris Aiken made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (she also didn't allow any walks). Aiken was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing six bases while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Gizelle Garcia was incredible, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Anaya Ortega, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, sadly, Sterling is still looking for their first win of the season after four matches. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 16-0 walloping at the hands of Milby on Saturday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Sterling has not been shut out since back in March.
Waltrip's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs per game. As for Sterling, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
