Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitney Young to victory, but perhaps none more so than Destiny Jackson, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jackson's evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiaya Johnson, who on her way to 17 points.
Whitney Young smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Kenwood faced Nazareth Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Kenwood escaped with a win against Nazareth Academy by the margin of a single free throw, 72-71.
Kenwood's win came from a few key players Whitney Young will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ariella Henigan, who posted 20 points and seven assists. London Walker George was another key player, to rack up 20 points along with eight boards and three steals.
Whitney Young's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points over those games. As for Kenwood, their record is now 31-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Whitney Young has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Kenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
