Recap: Fleming Island Golden Eagles vs. Port St. Lucie Jaguars

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 68-58 victory over Port St. Lucie. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Fleming Island found their leader in underclassman Carson Crawford, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Crawford hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games. George Hamm was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ryan Rodriguez, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Rodriguez has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Javien Sapienza, who scored 14 points along with two steals.

Fleming Island's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Port St. Lucie, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fleming Island will take on Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Riverside's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Port St. Lucie, they will be playing at home against Morningside Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morningside Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 406th, while Port St. Lucie is ranked 166th).
