Softball Game Preview: Edgar Wildcats vs. Newman Fighting Cardinals

The Edgar Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Newman Fighting Cardinals at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Edgar will be strutting in after a victory while Newman will be coming in after a defeat.

On Friday, Edgar made easy work of Athens and carried off an 8-2 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.

Jorja Knetter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Edgar got a massive performance out of Alyson Kolano, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Isabella Kaiser, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Meanwhile, Newman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 12-1 to Phillips.

Newman saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Rice, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Edgar and bumps their season record up to 8-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Newman, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Edgar came out on top in a nail-biter against Newman when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Fighting Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
