Basketball Recap: Paramount Pirates vs. Downey Vikings
Paramount was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They lost 65-40 to the Downey Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1097th, while the Vikings are ranked 325th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Downey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Earl Santos, who went 5 of 7 en route to 15 points and three steals. Those 15 points gave Santos a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Frank Ibarra, who posted nine points.
Paramount's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Downey, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paramount will take on Norwalk at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Norwalk is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season. As for Downey, they will square off against Bellflower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bellflower will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Downey surely won't give up without a fight.
