The Elko Indians will be taking part in a tournament against the Twin Falls Bruins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Elko proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 15) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Boise 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since February 28th.
Taylor Hunton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Hunton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angelina Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kallista Crouch, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Twin Falls). Everything went their way against Ridgevue on Friday as Twin Falls made off with a 24-5 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Bruins sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Twin Falls got a massive performance out of Braylin Iverson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave Iverson a new career-high. Kaitlyn Hudson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Twin Falls lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridgevue didn't launched any home runs.
Elko is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11 hits in those games compared to only 5.4 in the others. Twin Falls' win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elko hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .392. However, it's not like Twin Falls struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
