Softball Game Preview: Laton Mustangs vs. Wonderful College Prep Academy Lions

Laton has gone a perfect 5-0 against Wonderful College Prep Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Laton has seven straight wins, Wonderful College Prep Academy has 23 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Laton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 33-23 margin over Legacy Christian Academy last Friday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Jade Perez made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and 20 unearned) runs off eight hits. Perez was even better at the plate, getting on base in six of her eight plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Madison Heffley was incredible, going 6-for-8 with six runs, seven RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emmily Mares, who went 3-for-5 with five runs and three RBI.

Laton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .519 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Wonderful College Prep Academy lost 17-1 to Alpaugh two weeks ago.

Wonderful College Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Laton, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Laton took their win against Wonderful College Prep Academy in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 23-13 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
