Softball Recap: Bandys Trojans vs. Maiden Blue Devils

After flying high against Lincolnton last Friday, Bandys came back down to earth. The Bandys Trojans fell just short of the Maiden Blue Devils by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Bandys of the 8-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March.

Paige Barrymore was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.

On Maiden's side, Raegan Rembert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks. Rembert has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in nine consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Maddy Clontz was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Wray, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Bandys' loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Maiden, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Bandys will head out on the road to take on North Davidson at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (North Davidson: 3.7, Bandys: 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Maiden, they will be playing at home against Bunker Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Maiden is on a three-game streak of home wins, Bunker Hill a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
