Basketball Recap: Battle Mountain Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

Battle Mountain entered their tilt with Yerington on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They strolled past the Yerington Lions with points to spare, taking the game 52-37. This was payback for the Longhorns, who suffered a 63-55 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Battle Mountain got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Adan Nevarez out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Nevarez also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Battle Mountain is 7-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 3-4 otherwise. Geovanni Ruvalcaba was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Battle Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Yerington's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brent Brinkley, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paxtyn Drake, who had five points and ten rebounds.

Battle Mountain pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Yerington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Battle Mountain will welcome Pershing County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Yerington, they will head out to take on Sierra Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Yerington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season.
