Recap: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Canyon del Oro Dorados
The Walden Grove Red Wolves lost against the Canyon del Oro Dorados back in September of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Walden Grove fell 21-9 to Canyon del Oro. Walden Grove has struggled against Canyon del Oro recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Gabriel Smith threw for 167 yards and a touchdown. Jayvon Coleman was his top target, picking up 68 receiving yards.
It was another big night for Kayden Luke, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Walden Grove to a paltry 204 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Canyon del Oro's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out 8.5 times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Evan Greer and Grant Young who racked up five sacks between them.
Walden Grove's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Canyon del Oro, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Walden Grove will head out on the road to face off against Northwest Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Northwest Christian is ranked 36th, while Walden Grove is ranked 53rd). As for Canyon del Oro, they will be playing at home against Poston Butte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Poston Butte focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
