Soccer Game Preview: West Ashley vs. Ashley Ridge

West Ashley hasn't had much luck against Ashley Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Swamp Foxes at 7:15 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

West Ashley's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Summerville 4-0. The high-scoring effort was just what West Ashley needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Meanwhile, Ashley Ridge faced James Island in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. While the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was the Swamp Foxes who were credited with the victory. Ashley Ridge got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to James Island's three. Winning may never get old, but Ashley Ridge sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Aiden Butts and Brennan Awtry scored both of Ashley Ridge's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Ashley Ridge pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for West Ashley, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-6.

West Ashley suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Ashley Ridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
