Soccer Game Preview: Providence vs. South Mecklenburg

The Providence Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Providence comes in on seven and South Mecklenburg on five.

Providence barely beat East Mecklenburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers' defense stepped up to hand the Eagles a 5-0 shutout on Thursday. Providence's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last four contests.

They hit East Mecklenburg with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Bella Dragone (2), Georgia-Allen Aaron, Maggie Donohoe, and Madison Detenber.

Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg won against Olympic on April 8th with nine goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. The Sabres blew past Palisades 9-0. Given South Mecklenburg's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Palisades are ranked 378th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Providence pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 51 goals over those ten matches. As for South Mecklenburg, their win bumped their record up to 9-4-1.
