Softball Recap: Shorecrest Takes a Loss

Shorecrest had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 9-8 to make it five. They fell just short of the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Scots couldn't push the score so high this time.

Claire Maxwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lyla Ann Taing made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

As for Edmonds-Woodway, their record is now 7-10. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Shorecrest: they've now won eight in a row.

On Edmonds-Woodway's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Helena Marsh gave up just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Ellie Alderson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Bella Swanson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Shorecrest is set to square off against their familiar foe Meadowdale at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Edmonds-Woodway will take on rival Shorewood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
