The Tarpon Springs Spongers will challenge the Lakewood Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Tarpon Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Tarpon Springs will bounce into Friday's match after beating Northeast, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. Tarpon Springs walked away with an 8-3 win over Northeast on Wednesday.
Tarpon Springs got a great performance from Danny Scott as he struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, Scott gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Andres Rodriguez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carson Tibbetts, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lakewood posted their closest victory since April 22, 2024 on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Boca Ciega. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Kayetano Cavillo made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mikal Morris, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Xavier Terrell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Tarpon Springs' win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-8. As for Lakewood, their victory bumped their record up to 3-11.
Tarpon Springs took their win against Lakewood in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0. Will Tarpon Springs repeat their success, or does Lakewood has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
