Basketball Game Preview: Refugio Bobcats vs. Kenedy Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Refugio Bobcats face off against the Kenedy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday... The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Refugio will head into Tuesday's contest after some sweet revenge against Skidmore-Tynan: Refugio lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Skidmore-Tynan, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of 2's match. Refugio took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 74-37 win over Skidmore-Tynan. The matchup marked Refugio's most dominant victory of the season so far.

Meanwhile, Kenedy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They really took it to the Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-43 win.

Refugio better focus on containing Tristan Mireles and DJ Williams as the pair were huge in Kenedy's win. Mireles shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine steals, while Williams dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was Mireles' third in a row with at least ten points. Logan Hill was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.

Kenedy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Kenedy pushed their record up to 8-15 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31 points. As for Refugio, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Things could have been worse for Refugio, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-46 loss to Kenedy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Refugio avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
