The College Place Hawks will face off against the Montesano Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. College Place is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.3 runs per game this season.
College Place managed to slip by Kiona-Benton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Hawks lost 13-5 to the Bears on Thursday. It was the first time this season that the Hawks let down their fans at home.
Kenadie Schreindl was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles. Another player making a difference was Adrienne Berube, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Montesano entered their tilt with Hoquiam on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 13-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
The result came thanks to Violet Prince's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kylee Wisdom and Ali Parkin did most of the damage at the plate: Wisdom went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Parkin went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Wisdom has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Liv Robinson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Montesano pushed their record up to 14-4-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for College Place, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. College Place hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .450. However, it's not like Montesano struggles in that department as they've averaged .396. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
College Place might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Montesano in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
