Baseball Recap: Westside Comes Up Short

Westside had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it seven. They lost 15-0 to the Independence Patriots. The game marked the first time this year in which the Renegades were not able to get on the board.

As for Independence, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The result was nothing new for Independence, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Independence's part, Chance Moore made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Moore has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Micah Cuthbert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Justin Williams was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Coming up, Westside will head out on the road to challenge Wyoming East at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Renegades' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Independence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Buckhannon-Upshur at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
