Basketball Recap: Northfield Falls Despite Big Games from Judah Michael and Daizhon Walker

Northfield was the 68-55 winner over Denver East when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Northfield Nighthawks took an 88-70 bruising from the Denver East Angels on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (68), the Nighthawks still had to take the loss.

Northfield's loss came despite strong showings from Daizhon Walker and Judah Michael. Walker posted 23 points, while Michael earned 15 points. Those 23 points gave Walker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gyasi Hawthorne, who put up eight points.

Denver East's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DAYESUN COLLIER, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 23 points and four steals. COLLIER has become a key player for Denver East: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 5-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of FABIAN MORRIS, who went 8-for-13 en route to 19 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Northfield and nudges their season record down to 12-8. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. As for Denver East, their victory bumped their record up to 7-13.

Northfield has already played their next game, a 52-47 win against Denver West on the 18th. As for Denver East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-53 loss against George Washington on the 18th.
