Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Crest Mustangs vs. Snow Canyon Warriors

Mountain Crest hasn't had much luck against Snow Canyon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mountain Crest Mustangs will take on the Snow Canyon Warriors at 5:50 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Mountain Crest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 65-57 victory over Desert Hills. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Snow Canyon put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 60-46 win over Green Canyon. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Wolves are ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mountain Crest better keep an eye on Olivia Hamlin. She was instrumental in Snow Canyon's win, going 13-for-24 on her way to 35 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Hamlin has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 50 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaylee Andrews, who posted eight points and six boards.

Snow Canyon pushed their record up to 24-0 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. As for Mountain Crest, their win bumped their record up to 16-9.

Mountain Crest was taken down by Snow Canyon 76-41 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hamlin, who went 13-for-21 en route to 29 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
