Baseball Game Preview: Rose Bud Ramblers vs. Newport Greyhounds

Rose Bud has gone 7-1 against Newport recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Ramblers will welcome the Greyhounds at 5:00 p.m. Rose Bud is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Newport will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Rose Bud extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Ramblers walked away with a 6-1 victory over Des Arc.

Nick Golla made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

Golla wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caden Calhoun, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Calhoun has posted since back in March. Another was Blake Bradley, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Newport sidestepped Rivercrest for a 4-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Greyhounds.

Rose Bud's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Newport, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.

Everything went Rose Bud's way against Newport in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Rose Bud made off with a 14-7 win. Will the Ramblers repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
